Mittens for beginners

Would anyone recommend 2 needle mittens for starters? Thumbs are crazy. Are there patterns that don’t need separate thumbs?

I’m sure there are patterns without the thumbs, but I am just finishing my fourth mitten from this pattern : http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/kwec-2NeedleMittens.html?noImages=0 from Lion Brand (it is a free pattern.)

It has been really easy. You do have to place stitch markers and tie the marked stitches off and then do them for the thumb, but it did not seem hard to me. (I am new to the whole knitting scene as well.)
