Mitred decrease

the pattern I am working from uses mitered decreases to delineate the left front and right front from the back of a cardigan that is knitted all in one piece on a circular needle.

the m-decrease is described as follows: Work to 2 sts before marker; insert needle into these 2 sts as if to K2tog, and slip to right needle without working them; remove marker, knit next st; pass 2 slipped sts over st just worked. 2 sts decreased. Replace Marker.

My problem is that the mitered decrease is supposed to run in a straight line up the knitting but mine doesn’t it is slanting to the right. What am I doing wrong? Does it have to do with the placement of the marker?

Hi and welcome!
This is the same as a centered double decrease. The best que for doing this decrease is to start it one stitch before the line of decreases. So use your marker to show you where to place the first decrease and on subsequent rows, start the dec one st before the line. This video shows it pretty nicely and the decreases line up without a slant.

Thank you so much for your quick response and direction to a really informative video!!!
