Messy knitting

Hi all I have just got back into knitting and wanted to see if I could make more than just scarves and blankets but following patterns seems really complicated :woman_facepalming:t2: Can any body tell me why my knitting looks so messy :frowning: Also does practice actually make perfect??

A picture would be of great help for us. Without a picture it is impossible to know in what way your knitting is a bit “messy”.

Yes, practicing makes one better. I notice it myself very well. When I pick up a new technique one can clearly see the progress.

Practice actually does make a huge difference. If you haven’t knit for awhile take some time to knit something simple just to get your hands and brain used to the act of knitting then move on.

What you like to knit once you get some practice in?

Sorry didn’t think of a photo I will next time I was making a hairband (nice and simple I thought) but one end was wider than the other. Will stick to it and hopefully improve thank you

Thank you  For your reply  I’m hoping to knit things for my daughters and nephews (clothes and maybe toys and things) have got myself some books for beginners and easy knitting patterns

There are a couple things that can cause this.

  1. Accidental YO where you forgot to bring the yarn back to the knitting position in back after you do a purl.

  2. Knitting the bar in between the stitches.

  3. Picking up your knitting after setting it down mid row and knitting the wrong direction which creates a short row and effectively adds an extra row.

  4. If you’re knitting the long way you could just be knitting looser because you’ve relaxed.
