Merino - felted not plied? Anyone familiar with this?

This wool is on the Kiwi version of ebay. See page:

Has anyone worked with something similar? Is the description correct (i.e. soft/spongy/non-pilling)?

Clearly not ‘parting with some treasured stash’ as the seller frequently has many of these balls in different colours.
I don’t like to knit with anything that doesn’t feel wonderfully soft and recently had a bad experience with some 70% merino, 30% silk that was horrible when knitted. Must have been third-rate merino and silk :grrr: good thing I only bought 4 balls, I suppose, rather than enough for a jumper (and I won’t start on the laziness/incompetence of the staff at that shop :grrr: )

If you know anything about ‘felted not plied’ wool at all please share! I’ve never seen anything like it.

I think I know what you are talking about. Like this review of Crystal Palace Merino Frappe describes this yarn as felted.

I have a ball that I got to see if it would be okay in a design I was thinking about, and it’s certainly not plied. It looks like brushed merino held together with a binder down the center, and I was looking for something mohair-like that was not actually mohair which makes me itch.

I haven’t knit anything more than a swatch with it, so I can’t tell you much, but the review should help you out.
