Question - I knitted the ribbing and increased to 69 stitches - this is what I do not understand: knit ST st to 5th row increase one stitch at each end, 4 rows increase one stitch each end (103 stitches) - it does not add up. help

Welcome to Knitting Help!
It may be that you increase one stitch at each end on row 5 and then every 4th row thereafter until there are 103 sts on the needle. So there’s the increase on row 5 and then rows 9, 13, 17, 21, etc.
Can you post a link to the pattern or tell us the pattern name?
Thank you for your reply!! I am in Hawaii on holiday I will post the information when I arrive home 1-12-14; the pattern is from an old paper pattern pamphlet, not sure the pamphlet name it is not from the internet unfortunately.

Hello back from Hawaii
this what the pamphlet says, there is no reference on the pages there is only a drawing of sweater which is a V-neck cardigan with raglan sleeves with a number 1404-1K:
Here is the the information I am so confused about.
Sleeves: after doing the ribbing, Change to larger needles (there is 69 stitches) and work in St st inc 1 st each end of row on 5th and following 4th rows unit there are 103 stitches.
Next: Inc 1 st each end of row on following 6th rows to 115 stitches Next:Cont even until sleeve from beg measures 181/2 inches end with working a wrong side row
help!!
I can scan the picture and pamphlet and attach it if you wish
thank you!
Welcome back from Hawaii.
Call the knit row that you’ve just completed row 1. Knit to row 5 and increase at each end of row 5. Now increase at each end of rows 9,13,17,21,25 etc until you get to 103 sts. This will be on row 69 which should be 103sts. Here the increase changes to one stitch at each end of the following 6th rows so that’s on rows 75,81,87,93,99,105 (115sts).
Remember that the increase is at each end of the row or 2sts increased on the row.
Wow thank you!! I knew you would understand!!! Mohalo
