Hello Folks
I have recently purchased a lovely pattern.
But i’m finding some of the pattern confusing
UPPER LEFT FRONT
Cast on 15 sts. working in st-st work 4 rows (have done this)
NEXT ROW:
K1, m1 (side edge), knit to last 2sts, K2tog (front edge) (have done this)
NEXT ROW:
Purl.
Work 18 rows inc 1 st at
side edge AS BEFORE in 5th
and foll 6th row AT SAME TIME
dec 1 st at front edge in 9th row.
So does this mean i do 18 rows of purl first?
I dont understand the rest
I hope you can help me
Thank you

Welcome to KH. My reading of the instructions is that you’ll work a total of 18 rows doing your increases and decreases within those rows. What’s not clear to me is whether all those rows are purled. HTH
Thank you!
I’m still confused about the 5th and 6th row and dec 1 on the 9th row.
I’m learning the abbreviations but can’t seem to understand
sorry to be a pain
You’re not a pain and I see no need for an apology. This is Knitting Help.
Patterns can be very confusing especially when you’re just learning to read and understand them. It will get easier.
You’ll need to keep separate counts for the increases and decreases.
NEXT ROW:
Purl.
Call this purl row, Row 1. Work an increase in Row 5 and again in Row 11. In between, at Row 9, work your decrease.
If you need help with doing the increases and decreases, check the Free Videos tab at the top of the page. I’d go ahead and find them for you but I don’t know that you need them.
PS: My counting skills are sometimes questionable so go ahead and count the rows as you work them to be sure I’m not leading you astray and do your increase at the correct time. That is, after you do the first increase count the next row as 1 and on the 6th row do another increase. I’ve found the best way for me to count rows is to put a marker after the first stitch on the first row, move it to after the 2nd stitch on the second row and so on for the the rest of the rows until I have as many as I need, do my increase or decrease and move the marker back to the beginning. If that’s not helpful to you just toss it out.
