I’m working Chocolate Passion Drops 134-55 right now. I’m working the side panel which has garter stitch followed by a cable section. The instructions say to work it until the piece measure 7 1/2 inches. But where should I measure from? The garter section pulls in, but the cable section lies flat, it is about a difference of 1", maybe more.

It sounds like you should measure from the shorter side. At the beginning of the section it says:
“RIGHT EDGE PIECE/FRONT PIECE:
All measurements should be done on the shorter side!”
