Material advise

Hello! First time knitter here. I wanted to try making a warm soft scarf for the winter season and decided to get alpaca yarn. It’s super bulky 80% acrylic and 20% alpaca yarn.

I found an easy pattern I liked; however, it calls for Mulberry Merino yarn, which is apparently 80% merino and 20% silk. Is this pattern still a viable option with alpaca yarn?

If not, do you know of any other patterns good for this type of yarn and a beginner? Thank you so much in advance! I really appreciate any advise you can give!

Here is a link to the pattern I had in mind!

Welcome to KnittingHelp!
Since it’s a scarf, you can make the jump from a gauge of 24sts/4 inches to something around 10sts/4 inches. For the pattern, cast on about 27sts for approximately the same size. You’ll have to see which size needles give you the kind of knit fabric you like.
Alternatively, Ravelry has patterns for super bulky scarves including one in mistake rib.

Take a look and see if any appeal to you.

Thank you for the fast reply! The second pattern you sent looks perfect so I’ll let you know how it goes! Thanks again
