Market bag

ok… so i’m making a market bag that i got the pattern from my local yarn store… and it calls for cotton yarn but i’m running out of it and i was wondering of it would be ok if i striped it with acrilic(simply soft by caron) or would it not look right?

The 2 fibers behave differently. The acrylic will either stretch too much or not enough. What is the cotton yarn you’re using.

it’s lilly suger and cream and the acrilic is simply soft by caron

Just get some more sugar and cream. The acrylic probably won’t work out with it.

well…now i get to frog… :frowning: i was on chat an di asked aubon chick and she said it would look fine…

she said it would look fine…

Initially it might ‘look’ fine but once you use it, wash it, the properities of each yarn will cause one yarn to look and respond differently than the other, as Sue mentioned. I don’t think you’d be happy with the FO.

I agree that the acrylic and cotton yarns won’t play well together in this application. I’ve made several string bags and the cotton is very sturdy, and doesn’t stretch hardly at all… it’s the knit that makes it expand to hold about half a cart full of groceries. The baggers at the market are always impressed.

I’ve made about 4 with hemp yarn that’s also sturdy and non-stretchy. They’re beautiful and strong, but the yarn for each bag ends up costing about $40… yikes! SnC is a much more cost effective option.

Good luck!
