Im making a fairly simple dog sweater. On my pattern, the directions read to K3, bind off 6 sts, k to 10 sts from end, bind off 6 sts, k3. The next row reads, P3, cast on 6 sts, p to bind off stitches, cast on 6 sts, P3. My question is which is the best method to cast on and bind off these stitches? Now this may sound kind of dumb, but when I cast on those stitches, which needle do I cast on to?

You just cast off the regular way, and on the way back, I’d use the backward loop or cable cast on–any cast on that uses one strand. Amy has video in the cast-on section of both.
You’d cast on to your right needle, since that’s where your working yarn is, and then continue along the row.
Thanks Ingrid! One more question, on the first cast off stitch, should I be knitting 2 first, or using one of the stitches already on the needle?
Hi Tammy:
If it were me, I would K10, K2 stitches, and when i pull the first one over the second, that is my first cast off stitch.
