This is also very nice done in white and blue…they look like snowflakes then.
I loved Brecka’s blue and white.
I also like these color combos:
evergreen w/ cream
dark burgundy w/ cream
navy blue w/ cream
navy w/lt yellow
navy w/ lt apricot

dark brown w/ice pink;
dark purple /lt yellow
YUMMMM, the dark brown with ice pink is gorgeous!!!
I went to knit night tonight and asked Bobbie at the LYS what she thought about subbing the yarn weight…she said she really couldn’t say how much more we would need what she suggested is…get a skein and do a gauge swatch she said like if you get 6sts per inch well then it will only be 24" wide and prolly not big enough…she is thinking we would have to stay with the original if we change the yarn weight…I think the original has 5 charted blocks I gotta look at it again…
She said we should be able to sub it but we gotta do a gauge swatch.
I’m thinking of doing mine in a dark purple and creme color…
I don’t think changing the weight would change the outcome of the blocks in appearance though…
Another thing is I looked at their Encore DK it’s machine washable and you get 150 yards for $3.20. I’m thinking this might be how I go, that way if I need more I can easily get it…and if I buy to much they will take the rest back
Gina~I like that idea too…I would recommend doing the above as well get a gauge swatch to figure out the size it would be
:yay:I’m so excited that ya’ll are so excited
I really like the first 3 you posted. The evergreen w/ cream, dark burgundy w/ cream , and the navy blue w/ cream.
I’m was leaning toward a burgundy or red w/ cream. But after seeing the evergreen… I could go there!
Artlady, don’t apologize! You’re not the only one who hasn’t committed yet, and either way, your experience is valuable! I love the color combos you posted!
I’m hoping to benefit from someone else’s gauge swatching to get an idea of what yarn I want to use, since it will definitely be a little while before I can start on this.
Dollyce, I love that you’re contributing your knowlege to the forum! Keep it up. Great color combos, btw! I’m looking for something in a really deep/dark burgundy with maybe a cream or oatmeal color or maybe even something more muted. Does KP have any really DARK burgundies? The hollyberry is too bright.
Plymouth Encore makes a really dark burgundy. I made my DH a hat out of it.

Thanks, Jan! Do you remember if it was color 999 or another one? It’s SO hard to tell online and I don’t have an LYS.
I don’t remember exactly and of course I didn’t put the number when I put it online. I am going to my LYS Knit Night tomorrow so if you can wait I will see if they still have it and tell you what it is. I think I have a few yards left I can take with me. Keep fingers crossed they do! Crossed Fingers
ETA: this is the hat I made with it, but the color may be off a little. You want it darker than this?
Hey all, its Brecka from rav, and i’m thinking about joining in with all of you. though i too am in the throws of yarn choice angst…
which yarn? which color?
I am leaning to a cream with a green shade.
(btw how did you post the pics of the yarn colors?)
my rational is that these blankets are for the babes we are planning to have in a couple of years so i’m sticking to gender neutral/ my favorite colors. (blues greens chocolates)
im torn between doing this next version in the same yarn -kp shine worsted because i love it, vs caron simply soft because its nice, cheep and voluminous.
Welcome to Knitting Help, Brecka! I’m not sure I’m going to be able to join in for awhile, but your blanket looks awesome and I’m sure you’ll be a big help! :yay:
To learn how to post photos you can click the link in my signature. It’s pretty easy.
OH WOW, JAN!!! Plymouth Encore has sooooo many perfect colors to put together!
I love Encore yarn. It is worsted, but it isn’t real thick. It’s still very malleable!
Endless possibilities!
<either heathered,
<or, saturated burgundy w/ cream
<Either off-white,
<or lt lemon with navy
<either off-white, or
<pale lavendar with evergreen
<Either this pink,
<or this pink with chocolate
<off white, or,
<lt lemon w/ dark purple
dark dark purple w/off white…or med purple w/ off-white
blue/black tweed w/ lt blue
charcoal heather w/ ice pink
Dk blue with lt apricot
I love to tinker with colors!
Welcome to KH Brecka, I’m so glad you are joining us since you are the reason I wanted to do this KAL…your blanket is just stunning and you can answer any questions we have too
Hereis the link to the Encore DK color choices
Carey~I have some Encore DK here and worsted…and I could work up two different samples if that could help, my gauge might be different than yours though…I’ll use my stash so the color choices won’t be what I’m doing though …ohh mom has some shine in her stash maybe she could bring up two colors so I could work a swatch in that too
Wow, I heard about this blanket kal on the sock kal thread, it is beautiful.
I have never done two color knitting let alone double knitting. But the blanket is amazing. And the color choices you are showing are great.
I will be watching this thread.
Mare~ You just made your first sweater and it turned out wonderful, I think you are ready to take this next step :teehee:
Carey~Mom said she would bring her shine up so I could get a swatch
You’re being SO helpful! Thanks! From the picture, yes, I would like it darker, but pictures on computers are such liars! It may actually be perfect, but cameras and computers distort colors. When you hold your yarn up to the computer, is the hat darker or lighter or a slightly different shade? The pic looks more brick colored to my eyes and my computer.
DH brought in the hat I made (from his car) and it IS darker than the picture shows. Although you may want it darker still. I’ll see what they have the LYS tonite and let you know!
Brecka, WELCOME! We are all in love with the blanket you made! I hope you figure out how to fix the hole. I remember seeing a sock darning tutorial on the web somewhere, maybe that would help you. I’ll see if I can find it in a bit.
Dustina, don’t make any swatches just for me, I just want to take notes on whatever swatches you girls make for your own blankets, to get an idea of what I want.
OK, must put groceries away now…
Carey, no problem it will help me decide which yarns I wanna use too…I might make one out of the caron I have too just to see :teehee:
