I am knitting a lacey scarf out of silk and mohair. I have come to the conclusion I may be too old to learn new tricks., but I have never seen these directions before. I hope some one can give me some assistance. p3tog, do not drop sts from left needle, yo, p3tog in same 3 sts, drop sts off left needle.
It looks like you’re replacing the original 3 stitches with 3 new ones, creating a ‘nupp’ as you do it.
Purl the 3 stitches together, but don’t slide them off the needle. There will be one stitch on the right tip. Then bring the yarn over the right tip and to the front again for a purl yo, then purl the original 3 stitches together and slide them off the needle.
