So I’m knitting this camisole that incorporates yarn over ladders (one at the top that creates a sort of v since it starts out with triple yarn overs, then double, then single) and then I knit until the piece measures 8 1/2 inches and then start two yarn over ladders-one towards the right side, one to the left that gradually increase (almost mirroring the one at the top).
The pattern says to bind off in purling, while maintaining these yarn overs…and I can’t seem to wrap my head around it. How to bind off while keeping the yarn overs and not making a complete and utter mess.
Also…how do I keep the stitches immediately surrounding the yarn over ladders neat? Sometimes they tend to get loose and messy and I want to keep it consistent and even looking (don’t we all).
To keep the sts next to the strands from looking loose, make a twist in them, ktbl. Now to keep the strand when you bind off, hmmm… I guess you could pick up the topmost strand with your left needle, purl and bind off, but don’t drop the strand, make about 3-4 sts in it and bind them off as you go. Which pattern is it - from Loop d Loop?
My idea on the binding off it to insert your left needle into the loose strand to lift it a bit. Then insert the right one under it, wrap your yarn around the tip to make a stitch, then bind it off. Do it for 2 or 3 more times until you have stitches along the opening. Though it doesn’t quite maintain the loose strand…
