Magknits' Blossom Pattern question

The full pattern is here: http://www.magknits.com/Jan06/patterns/blossom.htm

What I’m wondering about is the first part, related to making the back. I read this:

Work even until work measures 7 (8.5, 10)" / 18 (21.5, 25.5)cm from cast on edge, ending with a purl row.

and immediately after, it says this:

Decrease 4 sts in the next row as follows: K3, skp, k3, skp, k to the last 10 sts, k2tog, k3, k2tog, k3; 48 (54, 60) sts remain.

All knit stitches, so if you turn it, it will look like purls on the right side. Do they really mean to say “work even…ending in a knit row”?

You end with a purl row, which means that you complete a purl row. Then you start the decreases on the knit side.

Thank you! That made sense of it for me.
