Magknit's Biastripe shirt

I really, really want to make this this summer, but I can’t find the yarn. Since I am a novice, I don’t want to spend money on a substitute only to find out that it doesn’t work. Does anyone have an idea which yarn I could use instead?

According to the pattern:

Yarn substitutes :
Phil Ruban is a flat woven cotton tape 3-4mm wide. You could use Patons Bella which is slightly wider with more stretch.

So you want to look for a woven cotton tape or maybe ribbon yarn first of all.

Then the gauge according to the pattern:
Gauge :
19 sts by 24 rows measured over 10cm (4 inches) in pattern stitch

It looks like the yarn specified is worsted. You might try looking at Yarndex and see if you can find something. you can do a search to get it to narrow down.
