Machine washable socks color bleeding

I made a pair of socks with Regia sock wool. The problem: the color bleeds … a lot. The red bled, and now the white stranded work is pink! What’s more, the red continues to bleed after 2 machine washings and 2 hand washings. Is there anything I can do to make them color-fast? Would soaking in vinegar help (that’s supposed to work with plant dyes, but I don’t know about commercial dyes).

Thanks for help. I love my socks and don’t want them to fade or dye anything else pink.

[COLOR=DarkOrchid][SIZE=3][FONT=Comic Sans MS]Yes, if the fiber hasn’t absorbed all the dye it can, vinegar will help more dye be absorbed. However, if it’s just excess dye sitting on the yarn, vinegar won’t help.

Try the vinegar, (water, vinegar, socks in a microwaveable bowl, cover, heat, let cool) and then just rinse till water runs clear.
