How do you increase using M1k. I am following the direction in the knitting pattern. I do have an increase but I also have a whole! Is this supposed to be the result?

There are several ways to do an M1. There’s ways to do a more or less “holeless” increase but none of them are really perfect. Which way are they having you use?
If the M1 in the pattern is to pick up the yarn between 2 sts, you need to knit it so that it twists. That may leave a small hole, but after knitting more, it won’t be as noticeable as it is on the row you made it. Also, knitting tight seems to make the holes more noticeable.
