Ok, so when the pattern says “k2, m1,” does that mean knit 2 stitches, ktfb next, or what? I’m very confused.

heres how one of my patterns said to m1:
m1: increase one st by knitting into the bar
between the current st and the next st
don`t know if it helps or not! good luck…
M1 means ‘make one’ which means to do some sort of increase. Does your pattern specify which one they used? There are lots of M1 increases here:

Also…what are you making? That could make a difference in what increase is best to use. Some leave a small hole, KFB leaves a bar which is why it’s also known as the ‘bar increase’. My favorite most invisible increase is KRL.
DOH! Nevermind I see the pattern now.
The way this pattern is worded, you need to add a st without using one, so don’t do a kfb. Try one of the M1s on the increases page.
I just tried the m1b- wow! so easy and it looks good! no gaps!
Does it matter which M1 I use? Like, will the fabric look different?
No, just as long as there’s a twist in it to close up any holes.
