M1 unt is the stitch for me to do. I cannot find anywhere to find out what the ‘unt’ means. Anyone know? Thanks. :shrug:

What does the rest of the line say? If you post the entire line of instructions it might make more sense.
It’s a child’s shawl in the Knitting Calendar (a pattern a day for a year). The line says:
Setup Row (RS): Sl1 wyif, k4, M1 unt, k1, pm, k1, m1 unt, k10, m1 unt, k1, pm, k1, m1unt, k10 m1 unt, k1, pm ,k1, m1 unt, k5 (42 sts total).
Any idea what the “m1 unt” means? I know what m1 means (make one) but the ‘unt’ alludes me! Thanks for any help!
that’s a doozey… not sure, but i’m gonna hunt through my books now, i’ve never seen it before. I’ve been trying to think what it could be an acronym (is that the right word, been ages since i did grammar at school) for, and all i can come up with is ‘under next thread’, but that doesn’t make any sense either!! … under needle, up needle, bah!!
Hope I can find something for you, but i’m equally keen to see what everyone thinks.
your instructions don’t give any sort of abbreviation glossary? :??
When patterns use odd abbreviations like that, they’re supposed to tell you what it means. :!!!: If they don’t explain it in the pattern instructions, maybe there’s an appendix at the end of the calendar?
:shrug: Never heard of that one, either. I’d probably just M1 and see what happened.
Thanks for the help everyone! There is a glossary, but nothing on ‘unt’. I think I’ll just go with the M1 (like I have already and it looked fine, except i forgot one M1 somewhere and have now unwound it all!) So maybe if I keep better track the second time around I can get it right! I think it’s the last time I buy one of these Knitting Calendars. All the patterns were kind of lame except for this one. Well, if anyone has a cuter poncho for a one year old, let me know!
well i didn’t buy this year’s calendar when i realized that almost all the patterns from last year’s were available free on line! still nice to have them all in one place.
what day is the date on that calendar? maybe someone else can look at it and figure out what the heck they are talking about. I keep reading it as “unit”… i am guessing that isn’t right…lol

you can probably still return it, as long as u didnt rip any of the pages off
the pages are all one by one sheets.
Um… I just looked at mine, and it explains what “M1 unt” means right under the gauge. For those who are curious, it stands for “make one untwisted” – it’s what Amy calls a decorative increase. (I think it can also be called a strand increase.)
Maybe I have an updated edition, though seems unlikely that a calendar would have a second printing… :shrug:
