M1 how to

Working on a pair of wrist warmers, up to the thumb gusset,
the pattern says next K28, place marker, M1, place marker, work to end…
and describes M1; Make 1 (inc) - Lift strand between needles to LH needle and work strand through the back loop, twisting to prevent a hole, [knit or purl as indicated by pattern st].
hmmm, not quite getting it…

When you pick up the bar between the stitches, pick it up by putting your needle in from front to back under the strand. The front will have a \ leaning loop and the back is kind of wrapped tightly against the needle. Knit into the back one.

If your next stitch should be a purl, pick up the bar from back to front and purl into the front little loop.

Amy shows this M1 increase on this page. Scroll down until you come to the ones calle M1F and M1B, she also calls the same increases M1R and M1L.

ok, thank you, that helps, one detail, I’m a lefty, think might way of hoding the knitting may be unorthodox. In this case, I’m knitting in the round, moving to the left. My right needle is poking into the material on the left to make stitches, wrapping the yarn around the left needle. Still ok?

By moving to the left do you mean that the stitches to be worked are to the left? That would be the way most people knit.

My right needle is poking into the material on the left to make stitches,
This sounds right.

wrapping the yarn around the left needle.
Are you sure you are wrapping the yarn around the left needle? That seems unusual.

yes, you are right, I’ am wrapping the yarn around the right needle…

You’re doing everything just fine. Knit on!! The make one will be just like pictured on the video.
