How do I find out what size needle I should use for this yarn? I can’t find the wrapper and it isn’t in stores anymore?
help :wall:
I’d probably compare it to a yarn that I know the weight of, then do a test swatch to see how it knits up.
what store did you get it at? what about taking a picture of it and posting it here… maybe someone will recognize it?
Wrap it around something straight – a needle, pencil, ruler – and count wraps per inch. They shouldn’t be wrapped loosely, but not jammed together either. Then there’s a chart somewhere…

Here’s a couplathree to help you figure it out -

Fold a long strand in half and thread it through the holes in a needle gauge. Apparently the hole through which the double strands fit without either getting squeezed or having extra room is the needle size you should start off swatching with, go up or down a bit based on your preference. You can burn it too to see what it is: acrylic will melt, wool/alpaca etc. will smell like burning hair or meat.

I thought I had heard of the long doubled going through guage thing–thanks so much. I bought this yarn off of ebay and apparently when I wrapped it into ball I pull the wrapper elsewhere!
thank to all !!
