Hi,
My sister found a pattern for a hat she would like for Christmas. I like it too because it’s cute and it has two new things for me to learn. First was double knitting. That makes it a two sided hat.
Second is the charted pattern.
I’m missing a stitch and I’m not sure how to get it back. I found it early in my charted knitting. I got to the end of the second row and found that I’m one stitch short.
How can I get it back?
I’ve counted everything twice. And remembered that one stitch is actually one in each color.
Is there a way I can back up into the first charted row that is all one color and make a stitch there to fix my troubles?
Welcome to Knitting Help!
If it’s not a dropped stitch, you can increase on the current row somewhere inconspicuous and carry on with your knitting.
If the earlier chart row is only 2-3 rows away you may be able to pick up a loop between sts, twist it, pull the next bar up through and work the stitch up to the current row. If it’s more rows down, it gets too hard to do that. Easier and better to increase on the current row to get to the correct stitch count.
Good for you for adventuring into new techniques!
Somehow I did it.
A combination of picking up a loop down where I misplaced my stitch and an increase got me to the right number of stitches and it doesn’t look like something crazy happened. Woo Hoo!
