Losing Sleep Can You Help?

I’m still working on the sleeve of the baby sweater. (He’ll be taking this baby sweater to college!) I’ve taken the stitches off the needles and ripped out a couple of times. Now when whether I knit or purl, it comes out on the wrong side.

Example: holding needle in left hand RS facing. Due to purl a row. The purl comes out on the RS. Same with the knit. It’s reversed. Am I even explaining this right, I’m so dizzy? I must have put the work on the needles backwards but can’t seem to right the situation.

I know I have problems no one else encounters…but can anyone help?

Thank you.

If you’re knitting in the round, you’d knit every row for stockinette.

If you’re working flat, look at the knitting. Whether or not you think you’re due to purl a row, if the V’s are facing you, that is, if the right side is facing you, then you have to knit. If the wrong side is facing you, you have to purl.

Also, if you’re knitting in the round make sure you are working on the “outside” of the circle of knitting.

I don’t understand your problem. When you purl, that’s exactly what should happen: the purl (or purl bump) ends up on the side facing you. When you do a knit row, the right hand needle should have the knit side of the stitches. What exactly is giving you trouble?

I think from taking the knitting off the needles to rip out I somehow ??? got it back on backwards…I do really strange things. It seems to be OK for the moment. I don’t use circular needles…I’m confused enough.

Thank you so much for helping. This sweater will get finished…but I think a teddy bear rather than my grandson will wear it. Once I figure out all the mistakes I made, I’ll make him another one.

I couldn’t do it without you ladies.

Just a thought, the pattern could be wrong. I’ve not made many things but 2 of the 5 patterns I’ve used have had mistakes. Have you tried doing the opposite of what they say to do? You never know, and you can always frog it.
