I’ve just recently almost completed the Currant Cardigan. I’m at the button band stage but have found that the finished neckline is just a bit too wide for me and would like to incorporate some sort of neckband as I knit the front bands. Ribbing is not one of my favorite looks, One of the reasons I chose this cardigan. I’m thinking maybe I-cord but not sure how I would start/end. Any suggestions most appreciated.

I-cord edging would work. You’d have to knit into the join between the band and the collar a couple of times so that the i-cord turns the corner. You may also want to skip sts along the collar if you want to tighten it up (ribbing is actually quite good at doing this).
Thanks! I should have mentioned that the button bands in the pattern are ribbed and I will do them that way. I think I’ll try the icord around the neck first and maybe the bottom edge of the sweater too and then do the bands. See how it looks. Finishing a project is always the hardest part for me.
You’re almost there! If you don’t like the look, you can always take it out.
I’ve saved this pattern which always reminds me of a DNA helix.
Lol…I started the i-cord on the neckline. It pulls it in nicely without puckering, but…I just can’t picture it finished. If I do the i-cord on the neckline and bottom edge and then add the ribbed button bands incorporating the i-cord bind-off, will it look odd?? I was also wondering if I could do both button bands, leave the stitches live, bind-off one band in i-cord from the bottom up, work around the neckline in i-cord, and then bind-off the second band in i-cord, and then work around the bottom edge in i-cord. Does that make any sense at all?? I just want the finished look to flow not look patchy.
I think the continuous I-cord is the best way to go. Just be careful turning corners. You could start and end at a side seam.
A small i-cord (~3 sts) that doesn’t “take over” the look of the cables would work.
I started at left side seam and am gradually making my way around the entire edge. I think it is looking pretty good so far!
The corners are turning smoothly and the i-cord to me blends in nicely with the cables. Thanks for your feedback and guidance.

That looks perfect! Yes, the i-cord goes very well with the cables.
