Looking For Single Color Argyle Pattern

I’m absolutely terrible at intarsia; just end up with a big mess of knotted yarns. I love the argyle look, but can’t deal with the headache of doing multi-color. Does anyone have a chart using knit and purl sts instead of color changes to create the argyle pattern?

Okay, so I was able to create the chart for the single color argyle scarf. But still have issues.

I want the diamonds to be defined by knit and purl sts only (garter and stockinette), no other st patterns, but I’m not sure if that will work. I want the parts of the diamonds in black to be done in stockinette, and the white backround to be done in garter. Now here is the problem: I want the outline diamonds in grey to be done in garter as well. But if I do both the background and outline diamonds in garter, the outlines will be lost, no? So what can I do so that the outline will stand out and not be lost among the garter background and not interfere with the black diamonds in St st?

I think your best bet would be doing the white or black in stockinette, and the other in reverse stockinette.

When the gray is on the stockinette, you would purl; when it is on the reverse stockinette, you would knit.

Does that make sense?

It makes sense, but I don’t think that’s what I was looking for. I don’t want the outline diamonds to be done in different sts. I want the entire outline to be done in garter, so it will look consistent throughout the pattern. Thanks anyway, that was a great idea, just not the right thing for my vision.
