I would like to knit a men’s vest for my daddy, but cannot find a pattern. I have registered on Ravelry and searched through all of their free patterns for men’s or unisex vests, but all I can find are vests for toddlers… I think my criteria may be a tad picky.
The materials I have to work with are straight needles of any size and [U]super bulky[/U] (sz. 6) yarn. The yarn seems to be throwing a wrench in any search I perform. Any help? Me love you long time. :pout:
I can’t find many with that weight yarn and straight needles either. You may have to scare up some worsted weight to find a pattern. :shrug:

On the downside, according to the dad, I am forbidden from using any other yarn. It MUST be the fluffy blue stuff that HE picked out…so stubborn. I’m thinking I may have to find a “bulky” yarn pattern and adjust my needle size to get my gauge right. That could work, right?
Right you could look for a bulky yarn pattern, but use the needles for the super bulky (or it’ll be too stiff and lose the soft fluffy of your yarn) and knit a smaller size of the pattern that will fit him.
Here’s one free one, but it’s not knit flat. If you could figure it out for seaming…
You probably could use a pattern for a v necked sweater. Just leave off the sleeves, pick up stitches around the armholes, and do a k1,p1 rib for maybe an inch.
That was another idea I was entertaining. I still don’t know what would be the best way to approach this. You never know, I may end up making my own pattern for one. But before that, I’ll be looking into the one you linked, Jan, and see if I can manage that somehow. Thanks, all!
There is a good pattern for a unisex vest, the artisan’s vest, in The Green Mountain Spinnery Book, that I made recently. You could possibly convert it or make your own pattern somehow since the guage is 5 sts=1". I used Fisherman’s Wool. Instead of buttonholes it has button loops and is knit on a circular needle.
