Looking For Help with Debbie Bliss Baby Cable Blanket

Ahhhh! I have been trying to knit up the Debbie Bliss Baby Cable Blanket taken out of the Simply Baby book. I know everyone says to “just follow the pattern” but this one has me second guessing myself. Here it is:

ABBREVATION
C8B = slip next 8 sts onto cable needle and leave at back of work, k4, then k4 from cable needle.

And the instruction line:

K4, p2, k4 *p2, C8B, p2, k4; rep from * to last 6 sts, p2, k4. (160 sts)

Allright, here is the question, is this how it is read?

K4, p2, k4 *p2, (slip 8 to cable needle) k4, k4 from cable, k4, k4 from cable, p2, k4; rep from * to last 6 sts, p2, k4. (160 sts)

OR

K4, p2, k4 *p2, (slip 4 to cable needle) k4, k4 from cable needle, p2, k4; rep from * to last 6 sts, p2, k4. (160 sts)

OR

am I totally wrong. It seems to me like the Abbrevation is written up wrong, the cable ends up all twisted and nearly impossible to knit when done k4, k4 from cable, k4, knit 4 from cable. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much. :muah:

I think that it’s your second version and the explanation is wrong.

C4B means you slip 2 on to the cable needle, knit the next 2, then knit the 2 from the cable needle.

With C6B, you’d slip 3 onto the cable needle, so C8B must mean that you slip 4 onto the cable needle.

That’s right–cable back 8 would be to hold four on the cable needle, knit 4 and then knit 4 from the cable needle.

Thank you to the both of you! Thats what I thought, but the explanation really confused me. Now, I feel alot more confident. Thanks again for such a quick response. This forum is great! I hope that I am able to help someone in the future. :muah:
