Looking for a sun hat pattern

I was looking on Ravelry, but couldn’t find anything I liked, and could do myself, so I guess I need your help in finding a nice sun hat pattern that isn’t too difficult. I am a beginner knitter, so I need something that is beginner level, if possible.

I would also like the hat to have a nice sized brim, but not too terribly big.

I hope I am not being too difficult in what I want…

Who is the hat for, an adult, teen, child, toddler, infant? What do you have in mind. There are so many hat patterns at Ravelry…maybe pick one that has some of the basic features you like and you can get help modifying it. It’s hard to make suggestions without some sort of starting point.

Whoops. Sorry.

The hat is for myself, an adult. I would like it to be made with yarn anywhere from fingering weight, to worsted.

I saw a pattern I sort of liked on Ravelry, but it looks a little complicated, what with all the lace in it.

I did a search for free adult sunhats. Some are similar. If you chose a free pattern you’d have the added benefit that anybody can look at the pattern should you need help. Without seeing the actual pattern I can’t tell whether I would think the lacy part is very complicated or not. It really looks as if it wouldn’t be. To know whether you want to do it, I guess you’ll have to buy it.

I saw a couple of free patterns that interest me. Now I have to make up my mind which to go for.

I found a pattern I like! However, I don’t know where I would get the yarn required to make it. Its Katia Paper yarn.

You don’t have to use the recommended yarn, another yarn in the same weight should work.

What’s the pattern? Were there projects using other yarn? Do you want to use paper yarn?

I was looking at the Mother’s Day Hat pattern: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mothers-day-hat

However, looking at other patterns, I’ve decided to make the Sunny Summer Hat: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sunny-summer-hat

It calls for cotton worsted weight yarn, but I think I’ll use what I have on hand. I have this lovely yarn which is an acrylic/wool blend (80% acrylic and 20% wool). I say its lovely because it has a blend of varigated blues in it, like aqua marine, sky, and midnight blue. It reminds me of the ocean.

I also need to scrounge up some wire for the brim (among other things).

That’s pretty. You should be able to do that NP! Good choice IMHO. Now you’ve got me thinking I need to make a new cotton hat. I have this luscious mint green Bernat Handicrafter that I think would make a nice hat.

ETA I forgot to say your yarn would be really pretty made up that way.

Yup, I think it would look pretty done up in a hat too. However, I started using it in a scarf, so I’ll have to tear it out and wind it back up again before starting the hat.
