Looking for a DK cotton blend

I am wanting to knit this pattern http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/georgie-3 for myself. I have never made a sweater and I haven’t used much DK or cotton blends. I live in Texas and want to wear this in the spring and summer (while indoors with the AC). I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions?

I was looking on my LYS websites and found Sublime Soya and Sublime Organic Cotton. What do you think of these? I guess I am looking for the right $$$, too. I will need to make the XL so it will require about 2300 yds. Oh my… I have never bought that much of any one yarn. The whole thing makes me a little nervous. (The pattern itself looks easy enough.)

Any help would be great.

I don’t know if the guage would be right, but if you swatched with different needle sizes Knit picks comfy sport wt might work.

I was looking at KnitPicks sport-weight yesterday and noticed that they had some nice looking DK weight cotton yarns, too - this one is a linen/cotton blend http://www.knitpicks.com/yarns/CotLin_Yarn__D5420162.html

I want to use natural fibers for this project if possible. I have always liked Berroco and will condier it if I can’t find anything else.

I will check it out. I never considered using a different weight yarn and wonder if I should try with my 1st ever sweater project.

You said cotton blend… blended with what? Wool, acrylic, nylon?

I really don’t know what I want. I do know I don’t want wool in the blend. Like I said I like in Texas and I want to wear this in the spring and summer. It gets to be 104* here in the summer, but I in the AC it’s cold. Even the mid 70* can be hot with the humidity around here. I want something that is drapey and soft. Maybe a bit of linen or silk. I thought a blend would be nicer than straight cotton.

I have looked at Cotlin by Knit Picks, but many knitters have complained about “fuzzies”. It is high on my list, but I just wanted to find out other knitters thoughts on DK cotton blends as I am not as experienced with yarns as many out there on the web. I also find that when I go to my LYS (that has yarn stacked to the ceiling) I end up feeling a bit overwhelmed and don’t always get the yarn I want. This is a potentially large yarn purchase and I don’t want to be unperpared for the yarn purchase. I’d like to have a sort of shopping list to choose from.

I did look at the yarns others used, but many used wools or the yarn listed in the pattern. I am just checking my options.

I recommend Jeannee DK or Kraemer Yarns Little Lehigh. Both are cotton/acrylic blends and wash well. I made socks and a summer purse from the Jeannee. Kraemer’s Little Lehigh is available in DK online and in shops. I used it for a little boy’s sweater in teal, a little girl’s pinafore and a lacy summer sweater for myself in lavender. I really like them both and the prices are very reasonable too.

Yes, that makes sense. I live in southern CA so a light sweater indoors is often necessary.
