I am trying to knit from a chart in the above pattern. There are no written instructions. I had to unpick so much as I realised that the pattern that I was producing was completely different to that of the photo. I have 62 stitches in the row and the chart is a repeat of 10 stitches to be repeated 5 times. This only makes 50 stitches, what happens to the 12 stitches left over?
I have done chart patterns before but have never got into such a difficulty. AI says that I should just knit 6 stitches at the beginning and 6 at the end and do the pattern in the middle 50 stitches but it does not say anything about this in the actual pattern.

Maybe this pattern:
Read any notes before or after the actual instructions to see if there’s any information on the chart there. Is there a box outlined in the chart? Sometimes there are directions to work a given number of chart sts then repeat the sts in the box, then finish with certain other chart sts.
If you’d like you can post a row or two of the chart but please not the whole chart due to designer copyright. Just block out the following chart rows.
(So far, AI has been a terrible knitter. I’m waiting to see photos of its projects.)

There is a box outlined in the chart which has to be repeated 5 times which makes 50 stitches. I am working with 62 stitches but the instructions say start at size marker and end at size marker which if I do there are actually 8 stitches before the box and 9 stitches after the box which is 17 stitches so that is the part that is confusing me as I have only 6 stitches each side to make it even. So confused
I meant to say that the repeating box in the chart is made up of 10 stitches to be repeated 5 times which makes up the 50 stitches
Between your size marker and the box how many sts are there? Is that the 8sts or is the chart for all sizes 8sts, 10stitch repeat then 9sts on the other side of the box?
Is there another line or arrow on the other side of the box indicating an end point for your size? Maybe 8sts before the repeat, the 50sts box, then 4sts?

I am going to attach a couple of photos one of the first 3 rows of the chart and the other of the instructions for that section, sorry about my scribbles.
Try posting a photo of the first two rows of the chart and the starting and ending indicators. Block out the rest. There won’t necessarily be an even distribution of sts before and after the chart.
You can also use the chart to begin then follow your sts to determine how to continue after the repeat. Once you’ve figured that out, you’ll be able to follow the motifs.

It looks like you just misread the pattern which is so easy to do.
Begin at size marker
End at left front
There are 8 sts before the repeat, 50 rep sts, then 4 sts to the left front marker
Total 62

Perfect.
Work from the right red line (your size) to the left red line (the left front marker). That’s 8sts before the repeat and 4sts after the repeat.

So one other quick question when I am doing the even rows ie.row 2 starting from left hand side do I just go to the end of right front if you know what I mean?

I did post another quick one, so on the even rows I am presuming I start at size on left and then go to end of right front?
No, on this piece you will begin the RS or odd numbers rows at size and end at left front.
Then the WS or even rows you will do the stitches directly above those you just worked, so begin at left front and end at size. (Always working the sts between the red lines on salmonmac’s pic)
I find it helps to totally cover up the parts of the chart which are not being used. Post it notes (sticky notes) have just the right amount of stick to stay in place but not damage the pattern and when this piece is complete you can reposition them for the next piece of work.
Removable, restickable highlighter tape is also great.
If you have neither to hand you can use a piece of paper like in your pic (turn it to cover unused parts of chart) but attach with a paper clip or bull dog clip.
