Lionbrand 4 hr speed stix baby afghan

I started this afghan with size 50 needles. YUK! So started over with size 15 needles and 2 skeins. I’m now at the end of row 4 with 43 stitches but it’s not measuring apprx 30 inches. Since I’m a beginner knitter I’m not sure where to go from here. Just keep repeating rows 3 and 4 until the
diagonal edges measures 30 inches? I’m lost! Thanks for any help.

I would keep going either until you are at 30 inches, OR when you have nearly finished your first skein (assuming that you don’t want to use more than two skeins). Since this is not a fitted item, there shouldn’t be any need for complete gauge accuracy.

btw size 50 NEEDLES!!! Yowser! that must have been quite tricky.

I did make this blanket using the US 50 needles and 4 skeins of yarn. Since you are only using 2 skeins and size 15 needles there will be a big size difference. Using 4 threads made 1 stitch = about 1".

I agree with the previous poster - keep knitting until you get to the right dimensions. Even though the pattern only calls for 1 skein of yarn for each color you will probably need more.

The speed stix were tough to work with. My biggest complaint was that there was not enough room on the needles to fit all the stitches when the blanket got to it’s widest point. One of the reasons I liked them is because it really did knit up quickly, but, not sure if I’ll do it again. I want to make this again - not as baby blanket - and I bought size 19 needles so I wouldn’t have to use the speed sitx!

Good luck!

sara_jayne, do you have the pattern for that blanket. I think it’s cute and I might make it for a part of a baby shower present… What kind of yarn did you use?? Did it take long to do?

The pattern was free from Lion Brand and is here.

The pattern calls for 4 skeins of Lion Brand Homespun in 4 colors. My LYS didn’t have any colors I thought were right for a baby blanket so I used Red Heart Baby Clouds instead. I did have to buy 8 skeins (2 of each color) of the different yarn because the skeins were different lengths. The picture doesn’t really show it, but the four colors I used were white, yellow, blue and green - all had a white “fuzz” if you will surrounding them.

I did knit with the speed stix (US size 50) and while it was a little difficult once I got used to them I flew through the pattern. Since I’m fairly new I’d say it took me about 6 hours to complete the whole thing.

Hope this helps & Good luck!
