I’m thinking about doing this. In lace rather than worsted as she suggests though. With a 4mm hook maybe, or 3mm, or even 2mm. I’m going for a light and lacy design, so what do you think?

I think that would be pretty, and that you should just go for it. One chain at a time. 
You realize that it will shrink the overall size of the finished work? Aside from that go for it. I crocheted a lot of doilies over the years and still have a crocheted tablecloth to finish. I love the work of crochet lace in a fine thread.
