Lets play...If you had $500 you *had* to spend on yarn

patterns, etc, anything knitting related, what would you get?

I love to see other people’s wish lists, project ideas, etc.

Plus its fun to pretend shop!

OMG - what a fabulous thread!!!

Well, 10% automatically goes to purchase Godiva chocolate, as it’s a nice addition to yarn at any time of day! :roflhard:

Now, let’s see … I would buy my current favorite stuff, Debbie Bliss Cashmerino, mainly in Baby, DK and worsted weights. I know it has some microfiber (read: plastic!) stuff in it, but it knits up so beautifully that I haven’t been able to resist.

I would spend about $150 easy in Jeff’s eBay store on my beloved Addis.

I would buy $100 worth of Malabrigo yarn.

I would purchase some good ol’ fashioned, practical wool from EZ’s site, along with a book or two.

Alison

PS. These fantasies are almost too much to bear!! :roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard:

i would blow it all on Lorna’s Laces Lion & Lamb and Alchemy Synchronicity

I would schrounge up another $500.00 and go on a knitting cruise or go to knitting camp … oh and then I would probably need another $500.00 to spend while I was there … um… I over spent, huh… but If I only buy yarn that is on sale from now till “the trip” then I will have saved enough to go … right???

I’d splurge & buy Koigu, Debbie Bliss, Rowan, etc. I’d definitely buy some cashmere. Maybe even some rosewood needles–I’m so scared to buy even 1 set because I’m afraid I’d love them so much that that’s all I’d want to knit with from now on & let’s face it…I already have a habit!! Also, I’d love just 1 (or 2) insanely expensive baskets, the kind I admire all the time but can’t imagine spending $80 on.

I would spend 300 on the spinning wheel I have been wanting.
I would use the rest to buy a lovely a merino, alpaca, silk blend roving and spin my dream yarn myself!

First I would buy every needle in every size and variation that I don’t currently own. That should take care of a good $150. Seems lately every project I pick up to do has the one needle size or configuration that I don’t have (and no I do not want interchangeables! HMPH!)

Then I would make a list of all the “I need to make this projects” that I’ve wanted to do and buy as much yarn for those projects as I possibly could. I’d even include yarn for a sweater for me… after I figure out what I want to knit. :roflhard:

Well, I’d probably get some books:

Vogue Knitting , EZ’s Knitting Without Tears, Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush. Then a subscription to Interweave Knits.

I’d get a bunch of bamboo dpns.

As for yarn – I’d probably get some Rowan yarn for a bag I’ve wanted to make (Yorkshire Tweed dk, 4 ply soft, and Kidsilk Haze). Then, some other yarns I’ve wanted to try: Debbie Bliss Cashmerino, Malabrigo, Lornna’s Laces…

$500 USD or $500 CAD? :roflhard:

Seriously, it wouldn’t take me long at all to decide what to do. The first thing I’d do is find the magazine that has the pattern for the HBC point coat I saw about 2 years ago. It’s done in two strands of some insanely expensive wool from South West Trading Company that you can’t get in Canada. That would take up at least $300, I’m guessing. Then I’d get the wool from Ram’s that I’ve been eyeing up to do the circular shrug from the cover of Vogue Knitting {Fall 2005 I think}. There goes another $100-$150. Anything that’s left would go towards a Needlemaster set since I’ve already got Denise’s, and some knitting books… maybe bookbookbook 2

I would HAVE to get enough Alchemy Synchronicity to make a whole sweater…with my Chix discount, that would be $200.

I would finish changing out my Clover DPNs for Crystal Palace DPNs. = about $50.

Id save about $100 for books

And, Id split the rest between Malabrigo, Some REALLY nice sock yarn (Lorna’s or Cherry Tree Hill) and Maybe some Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran.

sheep!

I’m not sure what yarn I’d buy 'cause I tend to buy based on color, texture, all those intangibles that so far hasn’t made me swear allegiance to any one kind yet. But I definitely would spend lots on Brittany Birch needles and finally, finally break down and buy some Addi turbos. I lust after them but never know which ones to buy cause I have so many sets of needles now (including the Denise set), I have a hard time justifying spending more on needles. (I’m now collecting dpns. Don’t have a lot of them yet.)

Gladys in dismal and dreary Michigan

I would definitely buy some books- Sensational Knitted Socks is on my wish list, as well as some others. I would want to get enough Debbie Bliss Cashmerino for a sweater, as well as a bunch of Lamb’s Pride Chunky. As for the rest, I think I’d go to this really HUGE yarn store that is about 2 hrs away from me, allow myself as much time as I needed (which would probably be about 15 minutes!), and just buy whatever looked/felt good!!
Okay, let me wipe up the puddle of drool off of my keyboard now…

I would buy tons of yarns from both of my favorite yarn shops plus I would buy many knit books, books and more books!! :XX: :XX:

A neverending supply! :rofling:

:drooling: :drooling: :drooling:

What a wonderful fantasy!

I would get enough Plymouth Indiecita baby alpaca dk to make the velvet trim sweater from AlterKnits, a handful of good sock yarns, and Manos del Uruguay in every color I can get my hands on.

Then I’d pick up a couple sets of Ebony Lantern Moons (I’ve held them in my hands but never used them, I think I’d fall in love fast) and, if there’s anything left, a book or two.

Yum.

I’m going to Disneyland!! No, wait…wrong windfall! :roflhard:

Let’s see… I guess I’d get a bunch of books, different sized Addis that I need, cashmere… well that’s a start. [/img]

I’d make a $500 payment to my credit card. It IS for yarn.

ohh I’d buy alot of the yarn you guys talk about and I dream of buying LOL… Move off of Encore DK (don’t get me wrong I love it) and wally world!!! :cheering:

and books…

[ul]Ball Winder and Swift!
I’d splurge on some cashmere in white if it came in baby weight to do a complete christening ensemble for a future child of mine
A couple KnitOne bags for totin’ small projects hither and yon.
Lots of Alpaca yarn!

Needles
