OK so I finished knitting my clogs and I put them in the wash. I chaecked them every few minutes but they barely shrunk. I’m using some Lamb’s pride worsted and Debbie Bliss Soho/ They’re both 100% wool (not superwash) and have been used to felt before. When I bought it at my LYS the clerk said these were the best feltables. They are double stranded and I did make the largest size (I got big feet). I even turned off the cold water spigot so that only hot water would run through the machine. I put in some pants and towels and other bumpy clothes so there would be good agetation. They went through three wash and rinse cycles (and one spin cuz I got involved in a show I was watching  ) and they have only shrunk a little. The stich definition is still there but its starting to go a littel.

So what gives? Do bigger, thicker yarns need to go longer? Is it becasue they’re big? Do I need hotter water? I don’t want to be here all day (these dam clogs have been nothing but trouble since I started  )

I’m going to assume you’ve done felting before so… how long did you leave them in the washer? Some things/yarns can take a long time!

Keep going. When I did mine, I refilled the hot water a few times to make sure it was really hot. Do you have them in a bag?

Yeah! Jan beat Ingy!

OK so no not really, I haven’t felted on purpose before. They were in the washer for about 15 minutes each cycle for a total of 45 minutes.

I honestly don’t try to be first. It just happens that way.

Are you using very hot water, a little detergent and a pair of jeans or two? That helps the felting process. I think it took Kelly a REALLY long time to felt something…although I can’t remember what it was offhand… :??

Yeah I put them in a zippered pilow case.

How much water did you put in the machine? If they’re floating too freely, they might not be rubbing around enough. Try using a low water level and a couple pairs of blue jeans.

AAAAAHHHhh see I filled it up. I did put clothes in there but maybe I should put in something sturdier. I just washed my heans. Lesse what els I got…

I suggest you go for cleaner jeans… :roflhard:

Yep, jeans work well because they are abrasive.

Did you get them felted??

I used lamb’s pride worsted for clogs and they felted within 1.5 cycles, but I had to keep going to get the right size. I think it took me a total of just over 2 cycles to felt them and I didn’t put any jeans in there… They were felting so well I didn’t need to.

I LOVE clogs. I’m on the second clog of the second pair. The first pair I made were for DH.

On the Two Old Bags pattern for the Lucy Bag, they suggest adding baking soda to the water to help with felting.

Are they white? I’ve heard that white wool doesn’t felt very well.
