Length of Circs - Help!

Hi everyone:

I have a KP pattern for the Cabled Pocket Shawl and it calls for circs in 24" lengths - 1 pr. of 8s and 2 prs. of 10s. I have one 24" & 29" size 10 and wondered if the 29" ones would be okay to use, since the knitting is done flat and not in the round. I know there would be extra cable to deal with, but would it make that much of a difference?

I’d like to know what you think. My local JoAnns has the size 8 circs in the 29" length, but not 24", so I’m wondering if I should buy those (I have a coupon for 40% off which helps).

If knitting flat it makes no difference as long as they are long enough to hold all of the stitches.

If it’s knitted flat, what difference could it make? I can see where something in the round could be trouble if it weren’t big enough for a 29", but flat knitting on circs is no problem.

Thank you both - I didn’t think it mattered, but I wanted to get some other’s opinions. I’m off to watch “Pushing Daisies” - there’s knitting on it tonight!

Have a good night!

It’ll be just fine. I use the 29" length all the time for flat knitting, even scarves or shawls.

I will do that - good suggestion!

I also use circular needles for most everything I knit. It is easier on the wrists. The full weight of the knitting then goes into your lap when you are knitting and is not help up by your arms. Good luck!

Thanks everybody! I knew I could get the advice and help here that I needed - you guys all rock! :muah:

I only knit with circular needles. (Unless I work on socks) I am in heaven now that I use the Denise interchangable ones. Now I have all I need in one organized place. Now I need to get rid of the stash of other cir needles that I have.
