Hi, I am new to the forum. I am currently experiencing hand and arm pain and I am seeing a rheumatologist. He told me to knit lightly… no more big projects for a while  . So I decided to knit for charity. :XX: I am now a member of a charity group that knits booties, hats, blankets, etc. for premature babies in the NICU who need our help. Some of these babies are born so small that their heads are as small as a lemon :crying: It makes me sad to see children in such a state. You too can help either by becoming a member yourself or if you do not have the time or skill to do this you can help by doing other things such as donating yarn ( most of us have yarn sitting around that we have no intentions of using, why not donate it to a good cause, all yarn donated will be used to make items for these unfortunate children), knitting needles etc, monetary support anything you can do to help would be much appreciated. If anyone wants to donate anything or has any questions just ask me. Thank you
Leftover yarn...... You can help
hey there–I commend you for tackling such a great issue–my dh was born at 2.5 lbs. His parents were making funeral arrangements and limiting the time that they spent with him–it led my sil to become a picu nurse! Dh is fine–quite the miracle story!
How did you get started doing that? Was there already a group set up or did you start one? Did you guys just call the hospitals and ask if they’d take the stuff or were they looking for someone?
I’d love to do something similar–lease gimme some more info–if nothing else I will definately send you some yarn.
Ohh that’s something I would like to do!! Where in PA do you live?
Thank you Cristy! At this present time I am only a member to this group that was already set up. I searched the net till I found an organization I wanted to help. I myself was a preemie so I have a soft spot for these children. One day I would like to start my own organization but right now I do not have the time or funds to be a moderator. So until then I have every intention of helping this organization. I live in Phila, PA however the organization is based in Iowa. So as a member I help raise funds, gather supplies such as yarn, old knitting notions, etc. and knit for these little angels and then send them to the organization base.
Ahh philly… That’s not that far from here.
Knitpixie, you are most welcome to start a knit-a-long for your organization (or even for preemies in general) in our Knit-A-Long forum! Its a GOOD thing that you are doing!
where in Pennsylvania do you live
I live near center county… I don’t want to give out my exact location though for security purposes :shifty:
oh ok I know what ya mean
Yeah… But, I do like this idea… I’ll be going to our local hospital on the 4th, for babysitting classes(I’m 13 and I’m doing this for school), and I was going to ask the teacher there if she knows the knitting group locally and where they hang out. Hopefully all the other girls/guys won’t laugh
If you dont mind me asking how did you learn how to knit? Did you teach yourself? your the same age as my cousin and I just taught her how. LOL
I hope you find a local knitting group. I dont think anyone will laugh at you and if they do who cares everyone should just be themselves. Im 21 and I try not to worry about what people think anymore
Well… it all started on christmas of '05… I got this craft kit from my grandparents that I had my eye on. It had crochet hooks, cross stitch, knitting looms, knitting needles, and yarn. I started working on stuff, but i didn’t touch my knitting needles… I sat there and wondered about it until it dawned on me around the time of Easter. I asked my mom for knitting needles then, and I got size 9 needles. I put down my knitting needles after a month. I watched alot of Knitty Gritty, wanting to make alot on there, but I couldn’t because of the limited supplys. I put them away, hoping that one day I would be able to pick them back up. Around the middle of november, I found this site after having this urge to knit. I learned how to do the purl stitch, and I’ve been coming back ever since.
wow… Sorry for the long story
LOL knitting is so popular anymore :XX:
Yeah… It’s just not for grannies anymore
