I just noticed at the Lion Brand site that their patterns are now available in large print and Braille-convertible formats for visually impaired knitters.
I remember reading in the Little House on the Prairie books about how Mary learned to do some type fiber art at the School For the Blind (which is in Vinton, Iowa), but I don’t remember if it was knitting or crocheting. It might even have been embroidery. I should start reading those books to the kids, I loved them when I was younger!

Very cool, Lion Brand! Nice thing to do. As I’m starting to get a little older, it’s crossed my mind to wonder how my favorite activities - knitting and reading - will be affected if/when my vision goes (as it tends to do in my family).
Anyone know if there are there other resources like this?
My DS has a baby blanket knit by DH’s former college prof, who is blind. No clue how she does it, but I will ask her about it next time we speak!
I’ll try to post a pic of the blanket later today, it’s really nice.
Here is a picture of the baby blanket that DH’s college prof knitted us. She lives in Wisconsin now (we live in Kansas) but she gave it to DS while she was visiting.
She’s been blind since she was a little girl… I have no idea how she learned to knit, but I think it’s a beautiful blanket!!

Gee I can see perfectly fine and I can’t knit that well. 
Something interesting that I learned in my art teacher education is that blind people can be “visual” too.
I teach visually impaired students and plan to show them how to knit (those that want to anyway), so I’m excited to see the braille/LP patterns!
That blanket is truly awesome, and not just in the casual sense people use so often. I am actually in awe.
