Ladders between SSK and K2tog

I am knitting the Reti shawl from one of the Knitcrate boxes and I’m getting stuck at the cowl shaping part of the pattern. I think I am reading the chart right, that has the start of the round beginning with an SSK and the end of the round ending with a K2tog. But every time I do this, I end up with a really apparent ladder between the two stitches that I can’t seem to get rid of. What am I doing wrong?

You’ve got 2 decreases slanting away from each other. There may be a small ladder between the decreases but it shouldn’t be too remarkable. Try keeping even tension between the decreases, not pulling too tightly or too loosely. Blocking may help too.

If the ladder remains, you might try adding an extra stitch between decs and see if it helps.
