Lacy Zigzag

Just practicing some stitch patterns from 365 Knitting Stitches A Year.

On Lacy Zigzag I am not sure if I am making a mistake, since they only show a small picture of the knitted pattern.

Row 1: *sl 1, k1, psso, K2, YO, K2; repeat from * to last st, K1

I am slipping the 1 st as if to purl, but with yarn in back. If I slip with the yarn in front I end up with a little “bar” where it wraps around the slipped stitch and that did not look right. Also, it looks like the psso is not tight enough, it just looks a little out of place.

Any advice?

Candice

The sl is part of a decrease, so you’ll want to slip it knitwise – and yes, with yarn in back.

In terms of not looking right / not being tight enough, I’d say do several rows before deciding, because stuff right off the needle tends to look odd…

Thanks, I will try that. I really wish it would have clarified which way to slip!

When a slip is part of a dec, always slip knitwise. You’re actually sort of `knitting’ the stitch by passing it over the others.

And some people find that ssk is a simpler and better-looking way of decreasing.

Thanks for the help. I slipped knit wise then psso and it looks good! Lacey Zigzag is really pretty and fun!
