I bought the yarn for these socks last spring when it was still a little cool for flip-flops. But other projects took precedence and here it is July. I certainly don’t need them now, but I’ll enjoy them in the fall. The yarn is Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in colorway Jeans, and the pattern is here. I really like this pattern because it has a lot of elasticity built in. I just “winged it” on splitting the toe, but it worked out fine.

Lorna’s Laces is one of my favorite sock yarns, although I’ve never tried the Shepherd line. I’m sure it’s as soft as the other ones.

I’d be glad to. This may not be the way it’s supposed to be done, but it worked. When I reached the point of starting the decreases for the toe I put 18 stitches on waste yarn for the big toe, then worked the remaining stitches as usual working the decreases only on the outside of the foot. I cast on 4 stitches to fill the gap next to the big toe. When only 20 stitches remained I grafted the toes. I knit the big toe in the round, picking up 4 stitches from the 4 I cast on between the toes. When it was long enough I worked two rounds of K2tog, threaded the yarn through the remaining stitches and pulled snug. I just kept trying them on until the fit was right, so it was really pretty easy.
