Hello experts,
I am following instructions for a lace pattern which has got me in stitches. I can see the pattern is 17 stitches and the instructions say it starts with 14 stitches and becomes 17.
At the start of the lace pattern I have 322 stitches in one row.
The instructions says divide 322 by 14 and place a marker every 14 stitches. Then work the lace pattern 23 time in each row
When the lace pattern is completed I am expected to have 391 stitches. That number is possible only if the number of stitches in the lace pattern is 17 not 14.
I don’t see where 14 stitches is increased to 17. Since I am not an experienced knitter I hope you can see what I don’t.
Once again I hope to rely on your expertise to de-confuse this pattern
Hello
There are 2 red M1-p on the first row.
A M1 or “make 1” produces a stitch without using up a stitch as it is a yarn from between the stitches drawn up and put on the needle and worked. This means there is an increase from 14 to 16 stitches on row 1.
Later on, row 10, there is another M1-p making 17 stitches.
The other increases and decreases balance out with yarn overs adding and ssk or k2tog taking away so the stitch count stays the same.
Starting with markers every 14 stitches and then working row 1 should result in 16 stitches between markers after row and until row 10 when it becomes 17.
There may be some additional help on your pattern for how to work the M1-p.
Do you need help with how to do the M1-p?

Wow, thank you. I kept reading and watching videos of that stitch and could tell that was adding a stitch. Thank you

You’re welcome.
Do do come back and ask again if it doesn’t knit up to the number you expect though.
It looks like a fancy chart, with beads too, I’ve never used beads.
What is the pattern name?
