I want to knit this flat (as a scarf instead of cowl). Is this a 6 stitch repeat?

I get confused at row 3. If row 2 ended on P2, how can Row 3 start with k1, k into the back of the first yarn over? Isn’t there another knit stitch before the first yo?

It is a 6 st repeat. I still count 6 st worked in Round 3.

Some of the stitches within the 6st repeat ‘change their hat’ as the rows proceed, but there are 6st still.

To answer your question about Round 3: this is a [B]diagram of[/B] [B]Round 2[/B], which [B]begins with a K2T[/B] [B]yo yo[/B]…and [B]ends with a P2![/B]

Notice…when you get to the stitch marker after completing Round 2…[B]Round 3 begins with the K2T yo yo’s. You bump right into them! [/B]

You are working ‘in the round’…not flat. Perhaps that’s what confused you?

It is a wonderful pattern stitch! I love it. So cushy looking!

I realize that the pattern is worked in the round… I want to knit it flat. I want to make a scarf not a cowl. So, I am confused about what to change. The say to place the stitch marker between the last 2 purl sts, which works if you knit in the round, but not flat.

I can’t help you with a flat version.
I don’t think there is a remedy for this type of modification.

She specifically developed the lace pattern to accommodate ‘in the round’. What’s worse, the lace pattern doesn’t begin and end ‘cleanly’ from round to round. The pattern swings from round to round, and they seem to be interconnected and interdependent on each other for the continuation of the lace pattern.

Try contacting the designer for advice to work the pattern flat.

I did send an email to the Purl Bee earlier today, I’ll post back if I get a response.

I got some help over at Ravelry. The general idea was just to read every other line backwards. I wrote it down line by line on my Rav project page. Posted the finished scarf in the “watcha knitting” forum. Love the way it came out!
