Kyle Sweater

My friend is making it and we have a question on sewing
the placket/collar to the sweater front. The placket is about three inches too short to fit around the front opening.

We can’t decide if the placket needs to be eased in or if he should just knit a couple more inches on the large end of the placket/collar… If you can give any assitance, we’d be eternally grateful.

Hi Yarnlady, this is Artlady! :waving:

I think 3" is way too much “ease”. Something seems to be off.
It sounds like the placket needs more length to fit the neckline area.
Make sure that your neckline hasn’t stretched out, too. You could run a basting stitch along the neckline to draw it in, if necessary, to prevent stretching.

Also, I assume that the placket was knit independent from any other piece. When you re-knit it…especially when binding off again…don’t bind off too tightly if the bind off edge is along the lonnnng edge of the placket.

Good luck, and let us see photos of this garment when all done!

:knitting:Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Both of the plackets are knit independent of the sweater and are not bound off by grafted to each other to make the back of the color. So adding length seems to be a good way of dealing with it. All measurements are to pattern but it’s still 4 to 6 inches total that is “missing.”
