I just made a baby blanket which I would like to donate to a charity. Any one know of a good one???
You could donate to a local hospital baby unit? Or perhaps something like Barnardos.
Here are some suggestions…
Charitable Crafters has lots of ideas about knitting (and other crafting) for charity. Good site.
You could find lots more by searching under “charity knitting”…or something like that.

THE LINUS PROJECT COLLECTS HAND MADE BLANKETS FOR CHILDREN.THESE BLANKETS ARE GIVEN TO ILL CHILDREN IN HOSPITALS TO MAKE THEM FEEL SECURE AND TO BE A GIFT FOR THEM.
THEY ARE ALL MADE BY THE BLANKETEERS(VOLUNTEERS).YOUR BLANKET WOULD BE PERFECT FOR THIS!!! :happydance: :cheering: :XX:
THIS IS THE WEBSITE:
YES!!! You could donate to thepreemie project it is an organization in which all baby items are donated to preemies and regular sized newborns in need. It is a really great organization…I am a member and so is my best friend, Jenn and Jenelle another girl on kh. We are always in need of blankets.
check it out… you’ll it
This organization is so great They have so many features other organizations don’t have. such as set schedules/donation dates.
They even have photo albums that display the item donated which also gives credit to the volunteer …that is if you wish of course. If not you don’t have to give your name.
Here are a couple of things I donated to them :XX:
Booties for bereavement:
and hats for 3-5 lb preemie babies:
I am in the process of making a blanket to donate :cheering:
My DD was a preemie, and received a blanket from the Linus project and I remember taking so much comfot in that blanket. Someone who we didn’t know, who we would likely never meet made that blanket, and gave it to my DD who was so tiny, and struggling. I can’t describe it, but I was so warmed by the thoughtfulness of that person. DD is 2 1/2 and still sleeps with that blanket!
I work w/ a group called Newborns in Need and there is at least one chapter in each state. Do a google search…I think it’s newbornsinneed.org and find your local chapter. They’ll take it as long as it’s not “holey”, yellow, or green. Most places won’t take yellow blankets.
I didn’t know this until recently either, but many preemies are born jaundiced (where their liver can’t handle the overload of bilirubin) and it gives their skin a yellow cast. Now, would you want your baby wrapped in a yellow blanket when they are already yellow?? lol…I didn’t think so.
huh. I never thought of that, and both my girls were jaundiced, lol. I know I took a pic with one of my girls with a yallow blanket… I think the other had purple, lol
I agree about not wanting a yellow baby wrapped in yellow. But it’s actually because the yellow blankets make the baby seem more jaundiced. They can also make a baby who is not jaundice look jaundice.
I didn’t know this and made a yellow blanket for my best friends little girl. When she took the baby for a check up in that blanket the Dr was very concerned asking question like how long has she looked like this etc. When they got her out of her blanket and yellow jumper they realized it was just the outfit and blanket making her seem jaundice. She was a healthy pink little girl.
We both researched it after and found that many places won’t take yellow blankets because of that.
I wonder why not green? Are they afraid the baby will look like the hulk  ?
Hey! I just went back and looked through our baby photos, and my youngest, they had put a yellow hat on her (the first three days of life she had that hat on!) She was also almost readmitted to the hospital for her jaundice levels. Maybe it was just the hat, lol. No, she was cute. She’s here getting some sun to help her bilirubin counts
Anya, she is beautiful!!!
She is beautiful…and SOOOOOO tiny!!! How old is she now? Is she healthy? I hope so.
LOL- that one is not my preemie- the preemie was under billi lights for a few days to get rid of her jaundice The one above is Ellen, she’s just over a year now and was full term at 37 weeks.
The other is Julia, she was born at 31 weeks and is 2 1/2. Caught up in size to her peers, too, and is super smart (yeah, I brag on her all the time). They are both very healthy.
This is my preemie.
LOL that is funny!! I was preemie too… 30 weeker and 2lbs 4 oz. i was in the hosp for 2 months, and went home two days after my due date. Hence the reason I do my work for the NICU in Calgary.
Very cute pic tho!
Oh my gosh Anya, she is sooo tiny compared to the hands that are holding her. Glad to hear that she is caught up and smart and healthy! I have a friend who had a little boy at 31 weeks and he is under the lights constantly. I have not gone to see him yet and now with this picture, I can visually picture how tiny and precious he must be right now.
She was so tiny- 4 lbs. 4 oz. at her smallest, though she was 4 lb. 15 oz. at birth. Those are my DH’s hands, and he has small hands, too- I love that picture of them. It reminds me of how lucky we are.
I agree, you all are lucky. She was a great gift to you!
