Knitty.com Shimmer Shrug WIP

So I’m attempting my first “garment” with knitty.com’s Shimmer Shrug. It’s going alright aside from the fact that it’s coming out huuuuuge I think.

I’m making the medium for my cousin, but the sleeve is huge enough to fit me. Oh well! I’m just using crappy RedHeart Supersaver multicolor so the whole thing’ll only cost like $4. Woo for scratchy acrylics! Heh…anyway I think this yarn is probably a heavier weight than recommended.

The only peculiar thing, which you might not be able to tell in the pictures…is that I’ve begun the ruffle of the second sleeve and all the stitches just feel loose and I’m not sure why. Using the exact same yarn, needle, and and knitting/purling method. Maybe I’m just more relaxed today! :rofling: :rofling:

If this comes out reasonable I’ll prolly do another in a nice yarn. It’s a pretty satisfying pattern with the lacey back and it’s not hard. Here we are:

very nice. Can’t wait to see it done.

Yours will come out prettier

Thanks!

I can’t wait to finish it actually, and see how it turns out. I thought making something “real” would be impossible for me but, as a rather smart mod here says in her sig “Trust the pattern.”

It’s looking great!

It’s looking good! I’m sure your cousin will appreciate it no matter how it looks - and it will be perfect!

I made a poncho for my friend’s daughter with that exact yarn! Is the diamond pattern hard to work? You are doing a really nice job – such even stitches on that arm!

The diamond pattern is not hard at all, it’s just a y/o and k2tog in various places depending on the row. Each row of the diamond pattern is different, but very easy to memorize once you get in the groove. The back section is my favorite part, actually. (I got a little bored with the sleeve by the end…and my increases are not great looking.)

That looks great so far

I love the color too.

Looking good! Great colors!

Looking nice!! I love :inlove: those pretty colors.
