Hi can anyone help me understand this part of the pattern , for baby cardi. Please.
Slip 3st s onto stitch holder , cast of 8sts in patt , patt to last. 2sts, patt2tog [17] left.
When I tried this I ended up with so many stitches on one needle and a gap then a cple more stitches !!

What is the name of your pattern and what part are you knitting?
The stitch alignment that you describe sounds correct, 3sts on hold, 8sts cast off to make a gap and then most of the remaining sts.
