:XX: What does " K 1 into next st" mean?

I would imagine that would mean to simply knit the next stitch. Maybe you should post more of the directions. Are you doing something besides knitting just before this direction?
I’m knitting an old pattern and the instructions goes "1st Row. K 1, * P 3 tog, K1, P 1,K 1 into next st, repeat frm * across row, ending row with K1. I thought it meant to add a st., but it keeps getting smaller and it should’nt because it’s a shawl. :??
I think I understand – but someone else jump in if I got this wrong please! I’m reading this to be K!, p3 together, and then k1, p1, k1 in the same stitch – thereby increasing by 2 to make up for the stitches you decreased when you purled 3 together.
I assume this is similar to knitting in the front and the back of the same stitch to make an increase. I’m at work now, or I’d pull out my needles and give this a try! You might want to view the video on knitting into the front and back of the same stitch to get the idea of this increase.

I want to give this pattern a go but I have similar question. I agree that it probably means to knit into the front back of that stitch but however won’t that just be an increase of one rather than two? And wouldn’t there need to be an increase of two stitches to make up for the two lost when purling the three together?
In the one stitch, you knit, then purl, then knit, making three stitches from one. Later you do the opposite with p3 tog, making one stitch from three. It all matches up.

Makes sense. I started to realise there was probably a way to make two stitches from that but I always too late. thanks for the quick answer =]
