Knitting with beads

I have a scarf pattern that has me string 143 beads before I start. I like to knit with beads and have other patterns that require I string beads. What methods do you all use to string beads (needle, etc.)? I also tried the method of using a doilie (sp?) crochet hook and putting the bead on as I go along (eliminating pre-stringing got from Lily Chin) but depending on the yarn used sometimes this isn’t the best method because of splitting, etc and it seems to break the rhythm which sometimes when using a lot of beads makes it more time consuming. You all are always so innovative, I just wanted to see what you all do?

I’ve used a needle threader and a dental floss threader. I think the floss threader worked better.

I pre-string my beads with a floss threader or needle. I haven’t tried the one bead at a time as you go along method but I do feel that method would annoy me if my project calls for hundreds of beads.

I usually separate the beads into batches of 100. The process of stringing the beads is kind of meditative for me and moves along quickly.

Thanks for your responses. Great article Anne. I put beads (what I call bling) on practically everything I do.
