Knitting two wools together

Good evening everyone. This is my first post. I am not a seasoned knitter and I am trying to knit myself a toque. I got a pattern from Martha Stewart.com. The pattern calls for 2 skeins to be knitted together. It says “c/o 40 stitches” does this mean with both wools so that I will have 80 stitches, and then do I knit each stitch separaately, with 2 strands?? This was supposed to be easy LOL/ Any help will be appreciated, as it is cold in my neck of the woods, and this sounded like a nice warm hat.Crossed Fingers

You treat the two strands as one. Hold them together and cast on 40 stitches. Each loop will have 2 in it, but treat them as one.

You’ll get used to knitting with the two strands held together in very short order.

Wow, THANK you so much! Your explanation was just right, and I appreciate such a quick reply. Thanks again.
