Knitting tragedy

I know you guys will understand. My whole family (and most of my LJ friends) look at me like I have a second head when I go on about yarn, but here, I’m among friends who are as addicted as I am.

I’m finishing a pair of socks (and we’ll not discuss when they were started as that would be demoralizing). Anyhow, I’m nearly done and wanted to knit more socks. Perfect! I have two balls of lovely fingering weight, self patterning wool I picked up before my move, right?

Wrong. Somehow in the move I’ve lost a ball of it so I have only the lone ball. Buying more is not an option since I’m currently looking for a job after the move. So – ideas on what to do with one sad, lonely skein of self-patterning sock yarn?

That’s so sad!! Can you wait awhile and finish later when you can get more yarn? It seems a shame to frog all that hard work!

Oh, I wasn’t clear. I have enough to finish the pair I’m working on right now. I wanted to cast on for a second pair this weekend after finishing these - that’s when I discovered the second ball (for the second pair) is MIA.

I’m just trying to figure out what to do with the one ball I’ve got left. ^^ I’m not ready to switch back to big needles yet. ^^

You could make footies/peds instead of regular socks.
Or you could make a hat.
Lost yarn. That IS a tragedy. We all understand! :verysad:

how much yardage is there?

There’s 210 m. It’s Fortissima Colori Socka yarn.

maybe… short cuff fingerless gloves?

btw I  your avatar… “I’m in ur stash fondling ur woolz” :roflhard: I keep thinking of those funny kitty pics! :roflhard:

Make a friend who only has one foot?

bebe socks?

Things lost in a move have an odd way of turning up in the most unexpected of places. I’d stash it for a bit and see if the mate turns up.

Yarn is a terrible thing to lose  :grphug:

There, there dear we’re here for you. We’ll take you through this. :grphug: :grphug:

Perhaps a neck warmer or maybe socks for a child.

:muah:

I’m just glad you guys understand. Like I said, all I get around here are weird looks. ^_~

I know how you feel.

Mini-update: the sock yarn is still lost to the four winds, BUT I found 3 balls of hand-dyed yarn made for me by a friend of mine. This same friend is sending me some sock yarn as well. She loves me.

Good yarn-karma to everybody!

I PM you Quiara~

See our yarn comes back to us~ in onw form or another~!! :roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard:

My suggestion is to split the skein in half (using an uber sensitive scale is the best way) and then knit 2 toe up socks.

Knit until you run out of yarn.

you should probably have enough for footies…

I think I’m going to use some DK weight on size 3’s and knit socks for my dad. He had a heart attack yesterday and a stroke this morning. They don’t expect him to wake up.

I am very sorry to hear about your fathers’ sickness. I think that is a wonderful thing for you to do for him. I hope the prognosis improves.

Thank you.

The doctors told us sometime back that because of the cancer, he’s terminal. Now there’s really nothing they can do for him except try to keep him comfortable.

I’m so sorry to hear about your father.
